Frequently asked questions

What is the real return?

Real return = nominal return minus inflation. If a CD pays 16% and inflation is 10%, the real return is only about 6%.

Why does the real return matter?

If you earn less than inflation, your money loses purchasing power even as the number grows. The real return tells you whether you're actually gaining or losing.
