Frequently asked questions

What is DBR?

DBR (Debt Burden Ratio) is the share of your net monthly income that goes to installments. The Central Bank of Egypt caps it at 50%.

How does the Central Bank calculate the debt-to-income ratio?

DBR = (total monthly installments ÷ net monthly income) × 100. Installments include loans, credit cards (5% of the used balance) and BNPL.

Does rent count toward DBR?

No. Rent isn't counted in DBR because it isn't a credit obligation recorded in iScore. Some banks do factor it into their internal assessment though.

What's the maximum allowed ratio in Egypt?

The Central Bank set 50% as the maximum debt burden ratio. So if your income is EGP 10,000, your installments can't exceed EGP 5,000.

Calculations are approximate. Every bank has additional criteria. Postpaid bills (gas, phone) affect iScore even where they aren't counted in DBR. Check with your bank for details.
